pause.

The holiday season has begun and we are gearing up for a very busy month. The installation of our "Georgetown Jingle" holiday tree, "The Journey to OZ and back", will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel, Washington, DC tomorrow night. The tree, which is displayed in the lobby of the hotel through the 16th of December will be sold to benefit the Pediatric Oncology program at Georgetown University hospital. Please check back here soon for photographs of the tree. You may also check us out on Facebook. With that said, it is time to take a pause. I look forward to this action-packed holiday season and will return to the blog next year!
All the best. PJBJR.

Jettison Edison.

Available in an array of custom sizes and finishes, the Jettison Edison light pendant is Fire Farm Lighting's 2012 exploration into the exciting new possibilities of LED lighting technology. The fixture and it's filament like *bulb* plays homage to this style of light that was brought to this United States over 133 years ago from Europe. The Jettison Edison celebrates the look and phenomenal longevity of that iconic invention. The beauty of LED illumination is that it uses a fraction of the energy used by an incandescent bulb. LED lighting is certainly at the cutting edge of technology. This light fixture proves that this beautiful form of lighting is continuing to evolve and become more refined.

Designed by Brad Pitt. Built by Pollaro.

Actor, Brad Pitt, has taken to designing furniture. According to the new Pitt Pollaro website, " In 2008, Brad Pitt commissioned a custom desk from Pollaro Custom Furniture. Frank Pollaro personally delivered the desk to Brad’s chateau in the south of France. During the installation, Brad and Frank found that they had a common passion for furniture and fine details. They discussed design history and their appreciation of materials, old and new. Most importantly, they shared a commitment to perfection.

Over a four-year development period, driven by their common vision of unequalled quality, Brad and Frank created the Pitt-Pollaro collection. Designed by Pitt, built by Pollaro. They dedicated hundreds of hours to meetings where Brad’s vision of design was balanced with Pollaro’s legendary craftsmanship. Prototypes were created, revised and recreated until Brad was satisfied with every detail of the design, and Pollaro was confident of the comfort and integrity of each piece. Every piece in the Pitt-Pollaro collection is hand crafted. All are limited editions and are numbered and signed by both Pitt & Pollaro. Since all of these pieces are custom made, the client may have input as to the materials and finishes that fit their decorative taste and complement the remaining furniture in the room."

Shown above is the High and Lows Cabinet. Designed by Pitt and built by Pollaro, this cabinet, is a custom made piece made of Ceylon Satinwood with a Macassar Ebony lacquer. It is a stunning study in geometry and unlike anything I have seen before. The dining table, known as the Long Run Table, shown below, is made from one unique exotic wood slab with a dynamic base. The table has a hand-oiled finish and is being produced in a limited number of nine, (9) pieces.

Sea Dragon Candle.

It is no secret that I love the creations from D.L. & Co. While visiting Barney's recently I ran into their new Sea Dragon candle. Placing one of these stunning dragon-adorned candles in a room will instantly add a flash of interest and surprise. Not to mention the burning candle will smell terrific. It is a pleasure walking into a well designed room. It is even more of a pleasure to further delight the senses by filling the room with a delicious fragrance. The candle is priced at $125.00 and is available in silver, gold or rose gold. I'm a big fan of the silver.

Surrealistic Gas Fireplace Logs.

When I first saw this modernist fireplace I was immediately drawn to something very unique about it. The surrealistic gas fireplace logs are made of slip-cast porcelain and are in the shape of furniture legs. Materious, is the Chicago-based studio responsible for this project. Their practice includes product licensing and commissions for companies like Ligne Roset, Moet-Hennessy, The Art Institute of Chicago, Crate&Barrel, and Kikkerland. According to Materious, "these porcelain, gas-fireplace “logs” offer a torrid farewell to our stylistic past: “Goodbye, Queen Anne.” “So long, Mister Chippendale.” “Farewell, William, and to you, Mary.” (And this project may also symbolize our current historic period—one of global financial crisis, where furniture is burned not for the crime of ornament, but out of economic exigency.)"
